Indienomics

A cool video from IFC that was shown in my Media Management class. It really makes you think about the way we obtain/consumer information. There's been a huge paradigm shift in the workplace and how people are making money.

Snippets

Revolution.

Levi's, "Pioneers! O Pioneers!" by Walt Whitman

There is something really ingenious I find about movie trailers, TV promos and commercials. Many of them are pretty ordinary and forgettable, often viewed once and then lost in the folds of the human psyche. There are, however, the select few that are highly memorable. They make you think, they bring power and emotion to the content of what you are previewing. Sometimes I've gone to a terrible movie simply because of its incredible trailer. The same goes for certain TV shows. There are times when I see an incredible ad on TV and I'm almost disappointed that it's for something as ordinary as Levi's. There is a certain combination of inspiring music, unique camera work, and striking graphics these snippets provide that just makes you sit back in awe.

Nostalgia.

LOST, "You Found Me" by The Fray

Am I over hyping these 2-5 minutes snippets that many find annoying and distracting when they're watching their favorite shows, or sitting in a theater waiting for their movie to start? Perhaps. But think about this. The only reason those people are sitting in that theater or watching that show in the first place is because they or a friend saw a preview for it. The only reason those shows air or that movie runs is because of advertising. So for those that sit and find these previews and commercials to be a nuisance, why not try embracing them?

Imagination.

Where the Wild Things Are,"Wake up" by Arcade Fire

These "snippets" are a piece of you, whether you realize it or not. As humans we often organize our memories not by years but by events that transpire in our lives. I think that we identify with these commercials, trailers, and promos because they may remind of us a certain point in our lives, or because of some idea that we agree with. They are a medium through which we connect. People went ballistic when the teaser trailer for the new Twilight movie was released during the MTV Movie awards. Trailers and commercials are documenters of our history. Not only are they snippets of what they promote, but they are snippets of the time of our existence.

Anguish.
